Case Studies of Adaptation to Climate Change in the Canadian Mining Sector

ArcticNorth worked with six mine site case studies in Yukon and Saskatchewan to characterize adaptation actions taken to address climate change and variability. This included documenting the drivers of action, the risks or opportunities addressed, lessons learned, and measurements that are used to track success of the adaptation actions.

Background studies on three climate change hot spots in Africa and South Asia

This project used a systematic review approach to examine published literature (peer reviewed, grey, policy documents) reporting on climate change adaptation occurring in Africa and South Asia.  The review focused on climate change hot spots such as low lying deltas, densely populated river basins, and semi-arid regions. The work was commissioned by the IDRC to inform the design of their CARIAA program  The ArcticNorth team was also contracted to train research groups in systematic literature review methodologies, organize a session at the COP18 meeting in Doha, and lead a special edition at the journal Regional Environmental Change on the work.

Adaptation Planning for Climate Change in Ulukhaktok, Paulatuk and Aklavik

     

 

 

 

We worked in partnership with community organizations and members to develop Climate Change Adaptation Action Plans for Ulukhaktok, Paulatuk, and Aklavik. The plans have been extensively reviewed by community representatives and community member feedback was integrated back into the reports. Additionally, we prepared a number of supplementary dissemination materials, which you can download below.

Climate Change Adaptation Planning in Two Inuvialuit Communities

  

We worked with two Inuvialuit communities, Ulukhaktok and Paulatuk to develop preliminary climate change adaptation plans. This involved building community partnerships, extensive stakeholder engagement, workshop design and facilitation, pilot initiatives, and communication between multiple levels of decision-making.

Climate Change Impacts and Adaptations in the Canadian Mining Sector

ArcticNorth worked with stakeholders in the Canadian mining sector to document and describe the vulnerability of the Canadian mining industry to climate change, and identify opportunities for adaptation. Research methods included, systematic literature reviews, structured industry surveys, and in-depth case studies of mine sites across Canada.
